Coming off mixed results in last week’s Lafayette Kiwanis Jamboree, parish high school football teams shift into real season mode this week for the 2016 opening games.

The St. Martinville Tigers used a last second field goal to pull out a 17-14 victory over Northside in the opening game of the Lafayette Kiwanis Football Jamboree last week.
Young paddlers got a taste of kayak racing in Petit Tour du Teche at Parc des Ponts de Pont Saturday, Aug. 6.
Ranging from 250 yards to a mile in length, the races are staged around buoys. The racers are within view of the park at all times so that moms and dads and brothers and sisters can cheer them on.

Registration costs $20 and includes a T-shirt and lunch. Boats and other equipment are not provided. All paddlers must wear Coast Guard-approved PFDs.
