Kayak races for kids Saturday, Aug. 6

Registration is open for Petit Tour du Teche, youth races in Bayou Teche at Parc des Ponts de Pont Breaux. The event is Saturday, Aug. 6.
Registration costs $20 and includes a T-shirt and lunch. Boats and other equipment are not provided. All paddlers must wear Coast Guard-approved PFDs.
The registration fee allows each paddler to compete in all races in the appropriate age division.
Ranging from 250 yards to a mile in length, the races are staged around buoys so that the racers are within view of the park at all times. There are entrances to the park on Bridge Street next to St. Bernard School and on Main Street next to Breaux Bridge Junior High. On-site registration begins at 7 a.m., safety check at 8 a.m., and the first race at 9 a.m.

Upcoming adult races are the Tour de la Rivière Rouge, the 410 de Louisiane, and the Tour du Teche 135. The Rivière Rouge and the 410 de Louisiane both start at Shreveport-Bossier City on Saturday, Oct. 1. The Rivière Rouge is 275 miles from Shreveport-Bossier City to Port Barre on Bayou Courtableau in St. Landry Parish. The 410 de Louisiane begins with the Rivière Rouge course, and then, on Oct. 7, continues with Tour du Teche 135, the three-day staged race from Port Barre to Berwick.
There are also a number of separate one-day races running concurrently with TDT 135.
