St. Martin Correctional Facility Inmate Charged With Aggravated Rape and Aggravated Kidnapping

According to a press release disseminated by the St. Martin Sheriff's Office at 2:46 p.m. today, October 1,correctional facility inmate Melvin Celestine, 43, has been charged with aggravated rape and aggravated kidnapping in connection with an incident which occurred yesterday during which Celestine held a St. Martin correctional officer captive. 

As reported yesterday, an inmate, who we now know to be Celestine, held an officer in a secure area of the facility beginning approximately 7:45 p.m. Negotiations with Celestine resulted in the resolution of the incident approximately two hours later.

Sheriff's officials say that the investigation is ongoing and we will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
