Great Bayou Teche Dog Paddle is Saturday, May 10, 2014

The Great Bayou Teche Dog Paddle, Saturday, May 10, will be an eight-mile trip by kayak, canoe or paddle board from Breaux Bridge to Parks.

This is the third year for the event, which is a fund-raiser for St. Martin Parish Animal Services, the local animal shelter.

Breaux Bridge team takes trophy at Cajun Chef Relays

The Breaux Bridge Tigers edged a strong Franklin team to take first place team honors at the Cajun Chef Relays held here last Friday.

The Bridge amassed 112½ points, just ahead of Franklin which collected 111.

District play rocky for parish teams

It was a rough week for St. Martin Parish baseball teams in District 5-4A action as Breaux Bridge, Cecilia and St. Martinville went a combined 1-6 in league outings.

Breaux Bridge notched the only victory of the week, topping parish rival St. Martinville 6-1 on Thursday, avenging an earlier 4-3 loss to The ’Ville.

Sportsman of the week: Teddy Thibodeaux

Teddy Thibodeaux of Parks with a 5.84-pound largemouth he caught on his first trip to Sam Rayburn Lake.

He caught the bruiser on a chartreuse spinnerbait.

Thibodeaux was fishing with friends who have been going to the Texas lake for the past 15 years.
