Breaux Bridge team takes trophy at Cajun Chef Relays

The Breaux Bridge Tigers edged a strong Franklin team to take first place team honors at the Cajun Chef Relays held here last Friday.

The Bridge amassed 112½ points, just ahead of Franklin which collected 111.

Cecilia finished a close third with 107 points. The hosting St. Martinville Tigers had to settle for fifth place in the nine-team field, compiling 44 points.

Breaux Bridge showed good depth, collecting three blue ribbons, three seconds and six thirds.

Gold medalists included Brandon Toussaint in the triple jump, Caleb Frederick in the pole vault and the 4X100 relay team.

Joseph Williams contributed points with a second place finish in the discus and also took third in the long jump.

The Bulldogs collected five gold medals, but only three each of silver and bronze.

Raymond Calais raced to first place in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Other blue ribbon winners included Damien Bernard in the high jump, Justin Hebert in the 1600 and Chance Goodie in the 800.

Nick Noel helped the ’Dogs with third place finishes in both the 1600- and 3200-meter runs.

Devante Simon had St. Martinville’s only blue ribbon, winning the long jump. Tiger Robert Rengel finished second in the 3200 while Zachary Koonce was third in the 100.
