Late registration available for Tour du Teche V

Tour du Teche V, marathon races for kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and pirogues, begins Friday, Oct. 3, at Port Barre, La. Competition is for cash in the Racing Division and for trophies in the Voyageur (recreational) Division.

No losers in the Petite Tour du Teche

The third annual Petite Tour du Teche, a series of short races for paddlers ages 5 to 17, was held in Bayou Teche at Breaux Bridge’s Parc des Ponts Saturday, Aug. 2.
“Everyone of these kids is a winner!” said Tour du Teche organizer Ray Pellerin. “They’re out here instead of at home on the computer!”

NO PADDLING THROUGH THIS – Over 75 yards of water hyacinth blocks Bayou Teche at the east floodgate into Wax Lake Outlet just days before Tour du Teche II. Luckily, Corps of Engineers lockmaster Lennis Paray was able to open the gate and flush the lilies out to sea in time for the race. In TDT III, the problem was at Franklin.

The Gueydan Duck Festival is the proud host of the 45th annual Louisiana State Duck and Goose Calling Contest.
The contest will be held Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Gueydan Civic Center.

Kayak racing for youths to be held in Breaux Bridge Aug. 2

Petite Tour du Teche, kayak races for youths 5 to 17, will be held in Bayou Teche at Parc des Ponts here Saturday, Aug. 2.
Registration is 6-8 a.m. and the first race begins at 9 a.m.
