La. duck, goose calling contest set for Aug. 23

The Gueydan Duck Festival is the proud host of the 45th annual Louisiana State Duck and Goose Calling Contest.
The contest will be held Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Gueydan Civic Center.
The contest is sanctioned by the World Duck Calling Contest Committee of Stuttgart, Ark., and conducted under the auspices of the Gueydan Duck Festival Association.
Registration will be 7:30-9:30 a.m.
The State Duck Calling Contest will begin at 10 a.m. and the Goose Calling contest will begin at 1 p.m.
The registration fee is $20 per category.
The age divisions for the goose callers are:
•Junior Division – 16 years old and under;
•Senior Division- 17 years old and older.
The age divisions for the Duck Callers are:
•Junior Division – 13 years old and under;
•Intermediate Division – 14 to 16 years old;
•Senior Division – 17 years old and older.
Contestants must be a Louisiana resident. Verification of birth date and residency may be required.
There will be three categories: Blue & Snow Goose, Speckle-Belly Goose and Duck.
Each contestant will only be allowed to call in his or her age division only. Boys and girls and men and women compete together.
The contest will be held in the following order: Junior Duck, Intermediate Duck, Senior Duck, Junior Blue & Snow Goose, Senior Blue and Snow, Junior Speckle-Belly and Senior Speckle-Belly.
Plaques will be awarded to all first, second, and third place winners. All contestants will be eligible to win various door prizes to be given away during the competitions.
Winners in the duck calling divisions will be eligible to represent Louisiana at the World Duck Calling Contest in Stuttgart in November and will be eligible to receive $300 for expenses to compete in the World Contest.
