Students stock Atchafalaya Basin with paddlefish they raised

A group of students from Assembly Christian School of New Iberia, led by Monique Sanchez, released paddlefish that they raised in their classroom into Henderson Lake.

The event was part of “Native Fish in the Classroom,” a project of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF).

Lady ’Dogs pound Breaux Bridge, St. Martinville

Cecilia’s Lady Bulldogs crushed their two parish rivals in District 5-4A softball action last week, blasting St. Martinville 20-1 on Thursday and then pounding Breaux Bridge 14-1 this past Monday.

Breaux Bridge tops Cecilia; ’Dogs beat St. Martinville

The Breaux Bridge Tigers edged Cecilia 2-1 in District 5-4A baseball action last week but the Bulldogs derailed St. Martinville’s victory streak on Saturday by handing The ’Ville a 6-2 loss.

Top of the Teche 2 run last weekend

Randy Hargroder of Opelousas shaved two seconds off of an hour getting from Leonville’s public boat ramp to Myran’s Maison de Manger here in Saturday’s running of the Top of the Teche.

Hargroder’s time of 59 minutes and 58 seconds earned him first place in the Men’s Solo Double Blade Paddle.

Top of the Teche still open for registration

Paddlers can sign up to race the Top of the Teche the morning of the race, which is this Saturday, April 5.

Late registration will be 7-8 a.m. for youths and 9:30-10:30 a.m. for adults.

Top of the Teche is a 7.5-mile race for kayaks, canoes and pirogues from Leonville
