Bonjour!

Father Fabre told us of a robbery that happened after the 10 a.m. Mass at St. Rita’s Church two Sunday’s ago. Money and items have been missed from the church in the past causing Father Fabre to lock the church doors between Masses from now on. And even still there have been attempts of late of forced entry.

Winter is back! Ugh! For a blessed day or so I worked in the yard, cutting back dead ruellias, actually planting vegetable seeds in a flat in my greenhouse, and sat on a log beside the spillway at the boat landing just dozing in the sun. Now it’s back to a cold, cold north wind, gray skies and I think an occasional rain.

Morgan City and Berwick were among the most fought-over places in Louisiana during the Civil War. Morgan City – then known as Brashear City – was the ending place of an 80-mile rail line that began across the Mississippi River from New Orleans at Algiers, and, facing on Berwick Bay, was a port for steamboats in the Gulf.
