Jayvee Music Reviews with Jeff Vallet

Tony Orlando In Concert Imperial Palace Biloxi, Miss.

What do Tony Orlando and The Imperial Palace Casino have in common? They are both known for top quality entertainment.

And this chilly night in January was no different. The audience was primed and ready as Tony Orlando took the stage, opening with one of his signature songs, “Tie A Yellow Ribbon Around the Old Oak Tree.”

He is celebrating 53 years in the music business – 53 years! Most people don’t make 53 minutes. It was easy to tell that he loves what he does. On numerous occasions, he thanked the good Lord and the fans.

“Without you, this would have never happened,” he said.

Orlando performed the hits that made him a household name back in the ’70s: “Candida” … “Knock Three Times” … “Say Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose” ... “He Don’t Love You.”

I think you get the picture.

The packed house sat back and enjoyed the show.

How often is it that you get to sit down and visit with one of the best entertainers ever? That is exactly what we did. I especially enjoyed his stories of how he started in the music business. He talked about his days at Columbia Records and the people that he crossed paths with. Check out these names: Neil Diamond, Simon and Garfunkel, Bobby Darin, Connie Francis, Carole King, James Taylor, and Barry Manilow. Those are literally the Who’s Who of music.

We all loved his show back in the ’70s. I literally grew up singing and loving his music. His energy and voice were amazing!

My wife and sister and I had the chance to visit with him before the show. He is warm, personable and kind. That visit was like hanging out with a friend that you have known all your life.

I loved the show. If he comes to your town, go see his show!

The Imperial Palace is a fantastic venue for concerts. This evening was wonderful!
