St. Martin Schoolboy Football scrimmage dates

Although pre-season football practice just got underway last week for parish high school teams, coaches have already set dates for scrimmages as they work to prepare their charges for the 2013 season.

All three schools – Breaux Bridge, Cecilia and St. Martinville – have scheduled scrimmages for next Thursday, Aug. 22. And all will be playing at home.

Breaux Bridge will host Catholic of Baton Rouge at 6:30 p.m.

Cecilia will take on Erath at 5:30 p.m. Coach Terry Martin says there will be an admission charge of $5 for spectators to help defray the cost of the officials.

First year coach Danny Carroll will unveil a new spread offense not seen in St. Martinville in recent history against the Lafayette High Lions. Action will begin at 6 p.m. and Carroll says a controlled scrimmage will precede a live quarter of play. Both varsity and junior varsity teams will be involved.

JAMBOREE

The scrimmages will come one week before the parish teams participate in the 62nd annual Lafayette Kiwanis Jamboree at UL’s Cajun Field.

St. Martinville and Cecilia are featured on the first evening of the two-night event. The Tigers will meet Carencro in the second game of the triple-header with the Bulldogs closing out the evening against Notre Dame of Crowley.

Breaux Bridge will kick off the action on Friday evening against the Jennings Bulldogs in the night’s first game.

Regular season action begins on Friday, Sept. 6, with all three local teams playing at home. Breaux Bridge will host New Iberia Sr. High, Cecilia takes on Comeaux and St. Martinville will entertain the Jennings Bulldogs.
