Louisiana State Police detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a man Monday evening, reportedly by a St. Martin deputy sheriff who was trying to take him into custody.
The man was identified by unofficial sources as Michael Noel.
The deputy has not been identified.
The St. Martin Parish school district received a C rating in the District Performance Scores (DPS) released last week by the state Department of Education for the 2014-15 school session, falling from B in 2013-14.
The actual numerical score slipped from 85.7 in 2013-14 to 84.2 for 2014-15.

Hefner has advised both the board and Parish Government on reapportionment issues over the years.
At a special meeting Monday evening the St. Martin School Board narrowly approved a backup plan that would keep Catahoula Elementary open if a federal judge refuses to allow the school to continue as a preK-grade 8 facility.
