Man killed by St. Martin deputy sheriff

Under investigation by State Police

Louisiana State Police detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a man Monday evening, reportedly by a St. Martin deputy sheriff who was trying to take him into custody.
The man was identified by unofficial sources as Michael Noel.
The deputy has not been identified.
The shooting took place around 6:45 p.m. at a residence on Eunice Road, between Parks and Breaux Bridge.
A woman who said she is Noel’s aunt and that she witnessed the shooting, told TV reporters on the scene that Noel was resisting being put in handcuffs and was tased twice before being shot in the chest by a deputy.
One or more deputies were reportedly treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
State Police spokesman Master Trooper Brooks David said he was uncertain at this point why officers were called to the home.
LSP customarily investigates shootings where law enforcement officers are involved.
Family members told reporters Noel’s mother had called an undisclosed agency earlier in the day because Noel was having a “breakdown,” and she wanted him to go to a hospital. When no one showed up, they said, she called the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office to come “calm him down,” and take him to the hospital.
They said they’ve called SMSO before under similar circumstances.
