One person died in a house fire in the 1300 block of Division Road Tuesday morning, St. Martin Fire District Coordinator Brian Castille reported.
No other information was immediately available about the victim, who was the sole occupant of the single family dwelling.
In the evening of Sunday, March 15, the Abbeville Police Department arrested Tyrus Jamal Porter, 19, of Abbeville, on a warrant that was issued by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office in connection with the shooting on Johnson Road in Cecilia last month.
Shortly after 9:30 a.m. Thursday, deputies with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in Catahoula. Upon Deputies arrival, they discovered Jerry Ferguson, 39, Kaplan, in a vehicle at a residence next door to his estranged wife’s house.
Irvin Butler, 34, was arrested Wednesday, March 11, on suspicion of dealing drugs out of his Catahoula Highway residence.
Resident’s complaints about a rash of vehicle break–ins were addressed by the town council at it’s March,10 meeting. Council member Samantha LeBlanc reported that she had received questions from constituents about the problem. Chief of Police Leroy Guidry said that there had been an increase in property crimes throughout the parish.
