The city is now making arrangements for a big Independence Day event as part of the year-long St. Martinville Bicentennial celebration.
Workers have marked the locations of utility lines in preparation for installation of a box culvert at the intersection of La 347/Grand Point HWY and La 352/ Henderson HWY near Henderson. The contractor said the job will begin right after the July 4th holiday, weather permitting. The project will require Henderson HWY to close for about 30 days. (Sally Angelle)
The St. Martin Parish Council has called a special election for Saturday, Oct. 14, asking parish voters to consider two separate tax issues.
The first will be a proposal to levy a property tax of 1.75 mills to provide funds to the parish Council on Aging.
FIVE MILE DETOUR — Motorists will have to use this five-mile detour for four to six weeks while the state installs a major culvert along La. 352/Henderson Hwy in preparation for improvements to the I-10 interchange at La. 347/Grand Point Hwy. The detour follows La. 349 /Nina Hwy from Henderson Hwy to Grand Point. The exact start of the detour has not been determined but will likely be in the very near future.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) plans to close La 352/Henderson Hwy/ Main Street at the La. 347/Grand Point Hwy intersection for the construction of a large box culvert.
SANDBAG HELP — Trusties from St. Charles Parish used an automatic bagger from St. Mary Parish to help respond to the flooding in Lower St. Martin Parish last week. Using the machine, the crew filled more than 30,000 bags that were distributed to local property owners in the Stephensville area.(Linda Cooke)
