Newly elected school board president Mark Hebert has appointed a special committee to look into the pros and cons of purchasing or leasing as many as 35 new buses to rejuvenate the school system’s aging fleet.

Although the formal audit of the St. Martin School Board’s finances during the 2013-14 fiscal year resulted in a “clean” or “unmodified” opinion from the firm of Kolder, Champagne, Slaven & Co., LLC, the audit did reveal an area of “material noncompliance” regarding the misappropriation of funds at Breaux Bridge High School.

Members of the St. Martin School Board will begin the new year by electing officers to serve during 2015.
The board will hold its first meeting of the year at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the Administrative Office, 625 Corporate Boulevard.
A Breaux Bridge Man has been charged with vehicular homicide resulting from a two-vehicle crash on La. Hwy 328 near Dermile Calais Road.

St. Martin Sheriff’s Office deputies, with the assistance of a U.S. Marshal Service Task Force and the F.B.I., Tuesday arrested a Houston man wanted for bank robbery in Texas.
At 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, deputies executed a warrant on Martin Street in Breaux Bridge, taking Sonny Floyd Pervis, 25, into custody.
