The installation of artificial turf and track refurbishments at Breaux Bridge and Cecilia high schools are faced with minor delays following the opening of bids on the projects last week. But a separate bid on site preparation for a completely new football facility for CHS was approved by board members.
District and School Performance Scores (DPS and SPS) for 2016-17 released earlier this month by the state Department of Education show general improvements for St. Martin Parish schools.
The election of a new state treasurer is the only issue on the ballot for Saturday’s general election. Vying to replace U.S. Senator John Kennedy in the treasurer’s office are Democrat Derrick Edwards and Republican John Schroder.

Invasion of the kayaks!

KAYAK CITY – Racers in Tour du Teche III swarm through the boat ramp at Frankin’s Parc Sur on the last day of last year’s race. In previous years, Racers and Voyageurs – recreational paddlers vying for trophies – started an hour apart. This year the starts will be separated by two hours in an effort to bunch the paddlers from the two different divisions closer to the finish lines.

There will be a handful of canoes and a pirogue or two, also, but the kayak, the modern version of the Eskimo skin-on-frame boat, is the craft of choice for most recreational paddlers today. You’ll see them in every color of the rainbow as Tour du Teche IV flows through St.
