New Iberia start added for Tour du Teche V

With the Crawfish, the Acadian, the Hot Sauce, Sugar and Oil & Gas now comes the Black Bear.
A new “short” race has been added to Tour du Teche for its fifth running this October.
The Black Bear leg begins at New Iberia’s City Park at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, and ends at Franklin, 35 miles down Bayou Teche.

Great Bayou Teche Dog Paddle is Saturday, May 10, 2014

The Great Bayou Teche Dog Paddle, Saturday, May 10, will be an eight-mile trip by kayak, canoe or paddle board from Breaux Bridge to Parks.

This is the third year for the event, which is a fund-raiser for St. Martin Parish Animal Services, the local animal shelter.

Students stock Atchafalaya Basin with paddlefish they raised

A group of students from Assembly Christian School of New Iberia, led by Monique Sanchez, released paddlefish that they raised in their classroom into Henderson Lake.

The event was part of “Native Fish in the Classroom,” a project of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF).
