A new uber marathon for paddlers, the 410 de Louisiane, is set to start in Shreveport Sunday, Sept. 27, and end in Berwick on the Atchafalaya River Sunday, Oct. 4.
The 410 – for 410 miles – actually consists of two separate stand-alone races very different in character.

Tour du Teche, Inc., begins its sixth season of races with some significant changes including a new race in May, more opportunities for youths, and an exciting new finish line for the Ecrevisse (Crawfish) Race in October.
TDT Director Trey Snyder awards Denise D’Abundo of Baton Rouge $100 for her third-place finish in the solo double-blade class, racing against men. Under changes for 2015, she would have received $200 for third place, plus another $200 for being the first woman in that class.
Female paddlers will get some extra love from Tour du Teche starting with next year’s race.
The TDT Board of Directors has approved changes for Tour du Teche VI that include bonuses to the first boats powered solely by women to finish in each of four “pro” racing classes.
Earl "Boo Boo" Darby Jr., 5, of Broussard, harvested his first squirrel hunting with his Gam Pair and Gammie (Arden "Noonie" and Rhonda Delahoussaye of Breaux Bridge). Boo Boo is a kindergartener at Green T Lindon.
The boat ramp in Henderson Lake near the I-10 Atchafalaya Welcome Center is closed until further notice due to the low water levels caused by the drawdown at Henderson Lake.
The lake is being drawn down as part of a plan to eradicate hydrilla.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development closed the ramp on Sept. 27.
