A controversial plan to convert the four-lane section of St. Martinville’s North Main Street to two lanes with a center turn lane has been put on hold.
City Councilman Mike Fuselier said Monday that widespread opposition from city officials, local legislators and area residents have apparently derailed the project.
The following arrests and/or citations were reported in St. Martin Parish from Monday, Aug. 24, through Sunday, Aug. 30.
The Annual Voter Registration/Education Week in Louisiana started Aug. 31 and will run through Sept. 4.
Sections of 20-inch pipe lay strung out along a neatly manicured right-of-way, awaiting a crew from WHC Energy Services, Lafayette, to construct the 270-mile Aegis pipeline from Texas to the Mississippi River.
The pipeline will carry 425,000 barrels a day of ethane, a natural gas liquid widely used in plasics and pharmaceuticals.
City Council on Aug. 17 called for a special bond election on Nov. 21 to raise money for improvements to recreational facilities in the city.
The St. Martinville City Council, which ordinarily meets on the first Monday of the month, will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 8, instead.
Monday, Sept. 7, is, of course, Labor Day.
The meeting will be at City Hall beginning at 6 p.m., the usual time.

An apparent domestic disturbance at Cecilia early Sunday tuned deadly when lawmen responding to the call discovered the body of Jason Stanley, 38, dead of an apparent stab wound.
Sophia Benefield, 32, was arrested on suspicion of one count of manslaughter.
