Top Job open at parish COA

At the June 18 regular monthly meeting of the St. Martin Council on Aging, board members accepted the resignation of Lynette Edwards, who was named COA executive director Feb. 3, 2014. Applications for her replacement are being accepted immediately. Deadline to submit a resume in a sealed envelope is 3 p.m.

Cecilia baseball organization donates money for new restrooms in park

Cecilia Youth Sports Association, the area’s youth baseball program, presented Parish Government with a check for $50,000 toward new restrooms at Paul Angelle Park.
Todd Dugas, representing the organization, said the money was accumulated over a half-dozen years by pinching pennies.

CID field office occupying former SMSO Breaux Bridge substation

The former St. Martin Sheriff’s Office substation at 437 W. Mills Ave. is now a field office for Louisiana State Police investigators operating around Acadiana.

Breaux Bridge kids participate in Day of Action

The United Way of Acadiana teamed up with a popular local summer enrichment program and several other organizations to bring a special day of education and recreational activities to about 220 kids here Friday, June 20.

THE COLD WATER CHALLENGE, in honor of the fallen firefighters, raised more than $300 on Saturday, June 14, sponsored by the Butte La Rose Vol. Fire Dept. at the first Butte La Rose Jambalaya cookoff and fishing tournament. Bud O‘Quinn of Breaux Bridge accepted the challenge and was doused with ice cold water.
