Cecilia baseball organization donates money for new restrooms in park
Cecilia Youth Sports Association, the area’s youth baseball program, presented Parish Government with a check for $50,000 toward new restrooms at Paul Angelle Park.
Todd Dugas, representing the organization, said the money was accumulated over a half-dozen years by pinching pennies.
“We saved the money by reusing old equipment and by not spending money on things not really needed,” Dugas said.
He said that when the idea was hatched several years ago, the notion was that the parish would match the donation 50-50.
“The restrooms are going to cost well over $100,000 but (Parish President Guy Cormier) agreed to kick in the rest.”
Cormier accepted the check at last week’s council meeting, noting that Paul Angelle Park is one of the parish’s most utilized recreational facilities.
Parish Councilman Dean Doré said he has been in touch with other sports organizations who might follow suit.
“I gotta say, I’m proud of you,” Councilman Meko Robin told Dugas and the organization’s Pam Guidry.
