STM rolls past Cecilia ’Dogs by 62-16 margin
St. Thomas More’s undefeated Cougars exploded for 49 first half points on their way to a lopsided 62-16 District 5-4A victory over Cecilia last week.
The Cougars quickly disposed of any threat of a Cecilia upset by striking for three touchdowns in the first 5 minutes of the game and led 28-0 going into the second period. By intermission it was 39-10 and STM added a touchdown and 2 field goals in the second half to boost their total.
Bulldog Drake Frederick booted his first field goal of the season early in the second stanza to put Cecilia’s first points on the board.
Quarterback Landon Roberts connected with Chance Goodie for a 34-yard TD pass seconds before intermission.
Cecilia’s final score came late in the game when Skylar Johnson picked off a Matthew Gardner pass and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown.
Damon Patt led the Bulldogs with 64 yards on 16 carries while Raymond Calais contributed 31 on 15 totes.
Justin Suire was STM’s big gun, rushing for 3 touchdowns and 49 yards on 9 carries. QB Williams Bellamy was near perfect, completing 7-of-8 passes for 167 yards and 2 TDs.
The loss left the Bulldogs with an 0-2 district mark and a 1-4 season record as they prepare to celebrate homecoming by hosting the St. Martinville Tigers this Friday night.
