The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) this week said Mexican sugar subsidies are giving Mexico’s sugar mills an unfair trade advantage.
Only two of the five City Council seats here are up for grabs Nov. 4 – the others were reelected unopposed – but one of these contests is already starting to throw sparks.
Out of 50 local elective offices whose terms are expiring, you’re only going to have to vote on 19 of them. The rest will march into office unopposed.
After the qualifying period Aug. 20-22, candidates were locked-in. Those with no opposition were, in essence, elected.
The preliminary school board budgets for the fiscal year 2014-15 unveiled during last week’s meeting of the school board’s finance committee showed anticipated deficits in three major funds.
The final budgets must be adopted and submitted to state officials by the end of September.
The problem of small RV parks serving as permanent residences was a major issue of discussion at the Aug. 19 Public Works Committee meeting of the St. Martin Parish Council.
