Food for Seniors this Thursday; Recreation Board meeting that same night. I’m so sorry I missed the last board meeting, but various people were nice enough to share some of the agenda with me.
The selection of a native of the small town of Basile as the next bishop of the Diocese of Lafayette is not as unprecedented as you might think. The first bishop of the diocese called south Louisiana home and there is a rich history of native priests rising to the episcopacy and serving in other dioceses.
Is revival drawing near? There are two very encouraging signs.
When Oscar statuettes are handed out next weekend, the people of Acadia Parish might want to take a harder look at them. George Maitland Stanley, the sculptor who created them, was born in the Iota area in 1903.
He didn’t stay long, but can still be claimed as a native son.
The wind has been blowing from the south the past two days, but Belle River and the spillway have continued to fall. At the Belle River landing, all three launches are in use, the parking lot is fully available, the bathroom is usable (I think), and the big yellow dumpsters are still on the highway side of the levee and full.
