Butte La Rose et Les Entourage

Bonjour!

I apologize! What I wrote in my column recently was a mother’s wishful thinking to transfer her son to a closer area hospital to be closer to him while he was undergoing therapy from the stroke he caught New Year’s Eve. As it turns out, Steve was transferred to Health South Rehabilitation and is very close to the Rapides Regional Hospital in Alex where he’d been since his stroke. There they specialize in stroke victims. He has several therapists working with him daily. His doctors knew best after all. The miles we must travel is worth it for all the help he is receiving thank you God! And please keep him in your prayer when you pray to Our Father!

In this hospital I met the family of 90-year-old World War II veteran Dennis Menard from Lafayette. Dennis is recuperating from surgery. I also met another patient, Curtis Brouiller, bunked in the same room with Steve. There were two other families and all of these people spoke French. And guess what? They’ve all heard my music on the radio, so I was no stranger to them. I am so honored and grateful I sang them a few of my songs plus a “Jolie Blonde.” That was fun.

I spoke with two nurses from Marksville working there and they told me their grandparents are traiteurs. One of them helped me snip a lock of Steve’s hair to bring home with me and pray on as was done in the olden days before doctors came along. She said her grandfather still does use this method. And I know by saying this it’ll rekindle old memories in some of you. If a person was too ill to travel to a traiteur then a worn piece of their clothing or lock of hair would be brought to the traiteur for prayer. That would put the sick person in the traiteur’s hands. For a baby, their blanket would serve their purpose.

Is everyone prepared and looking forward for all the Mardi Gras parades that will be happening in and around all the big and little towns around here? March 4 is the big day. These parades are so exciting and c’est fun! Spring is just around the corner so maybe the parade weather won’t be so cold this year. Let’s just pray for a rainless day. Are you preparing to make a penance for Lent?

Thank you Cathy Poche pour votre cadeau. It is appreciated. Also a big merci to les soeur Doucet, Shirley, T-Bob and Margaret for the pretty picture frame with the genuine mini wooden guitar centered in it. That is too cute. I can about imagine their giggling when they bought it to give to me because I was so happy to receive Charlie’s guitar. I love it all! And I got an e-mail from Glenda Aube reminding me the call letters to the radio in Cincinnati was “WCKY Cincinnati One Ohio.” Thanks Glenda.

Boss Fred from the Food for Seniors reminds seniors to keep handy their (2014) SS annual award letter posting their income for upcoming renewals which will not be for several months from now. And for seniors who will turn 60 this year you will need this info if you want to apply for the food program.

It’s fertilizing time so I’ve started applying to the crepe myrtles. How many of you lost house plants in the freeze this winter? The ones I stored under the house were safer than the ones moved on the porch. So I’ll have to rethink which was the safest place for the plants next year.

Merci à tout. Amètie,

–Cousine Hélène
