James Laperouse

St. Martinville – A Funeral Service was held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 11, 2017, at Pellerin Funeral Home for James Laperouse, 91, who passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Landmark of Acadiana Nursing Home.
Visiting hours were observed at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday and continued on Friday at 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m.
A rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Rev. Ed Degeyter officiated at the Funeral Service.
Interment followed at St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.
Mr. Laperouse was a veteran of World War II, honorably serving his country in the United States Marine Corps. After his retirement from the Louisiana Department of Transportation, he began working for the Louisiana Sugar Cane Cooperative and did some farming and crawfish farming, as well. James also did carpentry work and built many houses with Mr. Ben Prosper. He enjoyed being outdoors and especially loved to fish. James loved spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
He was a member of American Legion, Woodmen of the World, and the Lions Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 Dorothy Dugas Laperouse; son, Albert Laperouse; daughters, Sheila Broussard and husband Mike, and Evelyn Laviolette; sisters, JoAnn Amy and husband Ruffus, Dianne Menard, and Linda Faye Hulin and husband Hubert, Jr.; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond and Inez Laperouse; daughters, Cynthia Laperouse and Joyce Sullivan; sisters, Hazel Belaire, Earline Choplin, Amythe Laperouse, Mazel DeRouen, Mabel Monte, Irene St. Germain and Suzanne Deslatte; and brothers, Patrick Laperouse and Roy Laperouse.
Pallbearers were Cory Laperouse, Lance Laviolette, Luke Broussard, Shawn Hall, Hubert Hulin Jr., Mike Broussard, Tyler Laperouse and Sterling Laperouse.
Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.
