Henderson gives $2,500 to COA's Meals on Wheels

The Town Council Monday agreed to contribute $2,500 to the parish Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels program.
Mayor Sherbin Collette called the amount of the contribution a “starting point.”
Councilman Bill LeGrand asked that the contribution be given with the understanding that it be used for Meals on Wheels only.
Councilman Jody Meche suggested that the town’s populace be polled to see how many are currently receiving meals through the program.
In other business, the council delayed action on an ordinance establishing ground water protection zones. The ordinance, which is being promoted by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, establishes zone within a 1,000-foot radius of any water well serving a public water system and within which a range of activities from car washes to feed lots are prohibited without special permit.
The council also commended the Henderson Police Department on its thorough reporting of incidents, which several members said helps them to deal with complaints by constituents. Chief Leroy Guidry credited Capt. James Thibodeaux and town clerk Sue Dupuis with compiling the reports.
Guidry said there were 220 incidents in the last reporting period, “...one of the highest months of incidents we’ve ever seen.”
