With little in the way of human planning, a nationwide revival broke out in America among God’s people in union prayer meetings beginning in 1857. In the awakening that followed, nearly one million people surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ in a single year.
When the spirits moved railroad builder Arthur Edward Stilwell, they also moved a lot of freight. He extended the Kansas City Southern Line into Louisiana after he heard voices in his head.
At least that’s the railroad lore.
Although it still gets pretty warm by mid to late afternoons, I think I can reasonably say the weather is getting a little bit cooler. I became enthused by a particularly cool evening and planted some fall vegetables which are not exactly thriving in the heat, but with lots of pampering and frequent watering, they are not dying.

I went by Georgette and Gary Louviere’s home on the Catahoula Highway last month. It was a first time for me visiting them and an enjoyable and educational one. They are your typical Cajun family with arms open wide for love of their offsprings.
The indoor/outdoor thermometer sitting on my kitchen counter says the temperature outside is only in the low 80s, but I spent a few hours outside this morning doing yard work and I thought I might have developed a heat stroke!
