Popular game attracts out-of-state visitors to St. Martinville

Geaux Throw and the city’s Magnolia Park sponsored the first Magnolia Open Disc Golf Tourney Saturday, March 5.
There were 61 players ranging in age from 8 to 68 and hailing from Texas and Mississippi as well as all around Louisiana.
“We had an overwhelmingly positive response from the players saying that they enjoyed the flow of the course’s layout, the scenery of beautiful Bayou Teche, the ideal weather conditions – 70 degrees, sunny, mild wind – and the players really enjoying the new Prodigy baskets,” said Tyler M. Sonnier, co-owner of Geaux Throw Disc Golf Company, LLC.
Sonnier said numerous players commented on how smoothly the event ran and how much fun they had.
“That is a good indicator that we are on the right track, with the right players to keep growing the sport here in Louisiana,” he said.
The next tournament at Magnolia park has yet to be scheduled, but Sonnier said they are likely to get in one more tournament before the end of 2016. In the meantime, Geaux Throw will be hosting a few “Geaux Throw League” days at Magnolia park, with the next one scheduled for Sunday March 20th at 2 p.m. These league days simulate an actual tournament round, where players play by all the same rules and stroke regulations as a player would have during an official event. The format for these rounds are single stroke-play with prizes and potential cash payouts.
