Crowley slips past Cecilia

Crowley – The Crowley Gents used two big first quarter plays to take and early 12-0 lead over Cecilia and held off a second half Bulldog rally on their way to an 18-13 victory here last Friday.
The Gents scored on a 46-yard run by Keith Wilson and a 37-yard Paul Dugar-to-Rapheus Joseph pass to build their first half lead.
Cecilia battled back with a big play of its own when QB Corey Williams and receiver Noah Livings teamed up for a 69-yard scoring bomb late in the third stanza. Tanner Olivier’s PAT kick narrowed the margin to 12-7.
But Crowley kept up the pressure with a 2-yard touchdown by Wilson midway into the final period to build an 18-7 advantage.
Cecilia stormed back when Livings took the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown but the two-point conversion attempt failed and Crowley was able to hang on for the 18-13 win.
It was Crowley’s first victory after two losses while the Bulldogs slipped to 1-2.
Darius Flenaugh led Cecilia’s ground game with 81 yards on 12 carries while Williams struggled to a 4-for-13 passing performance for 83 yards while giving up two interceptions.
Bulldog efforts were also hampered by a couple of lost fumbles and 11 penalties.
Cecilia returns home this Friday to host St. Louis, another 1-2 team.
