St. Martin Sheriff's Office offering free hunter education classes

The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office is now accepting registration for Hunter Education Classes which will be held the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office Training Academy at 1815 Terrace Highway, La. Hwy. 96, west of town.
The classes are scheduled as follows:
•Session 1 – Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 9-11; 5-8 p.m.
•Session 2 – Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27 and 28. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 8 a.m. until approximately noon on Sunday.
Students must attend all days of a session.
The classes are available for those persons 10 years of age and older, and they are offered free of charge. Students ages 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Lunch will be provided for those attending the weekend class.
Louisiana law says anyone born on or after Sept. 1, 1969, must successfully complete a certified hunter education course. The are exemptions for P.O.S.T.-certified lawmen, military veterans, and youths hunting under the direct supervision of a qualified adult,.
