Kayak racing on Bayou Teche begins April 2

Top of the Teche, a 7.7-mile race for paddlers on Bayou Teche from Leonville to Arnaudville, is Saturday, April 2.
The competition is for trophies and certificates. Entry of $30 per paddler includes a T-shirt and lunch at Myran’s Maison de Manger in Arnaudville.
Proceeds from the race benefit the Arnaudville Chamber of Commerce and the Leonville Volunteer Fire Department.
Top of the Teche is run in two waves, with the Voyageur Race division (recreational paddlers) starting at 9 a.m., Pro Race division starting at 11 a.m. Late registration for Voyageur is 7:30-8:30 a.m. with boat check 8-8:45 a.m. Late registration for Pro 7:30-10 a.m., boat check 10-10:45 a.m.
Top of the Teche starts from the public boat ramp just below the La. Hwy. 31 bridge in Leonville. The finish is at Myran’s just past the La. Hwy. 31 bridge in Arnaudville.
Shuttle rides will be available before the race.
The race is one of a dozen staged by Tour du Teche and the first one of the 2016 season. Other TDT races are:

•410 de Louisiane – Shreveport to Berwick, 410 miles, Oct. 1 et seq.;
•Tour du Teche 135 – Port Barre to Berwick, 135 miles, Oct. 7-9;
•Crawfish – Port Barre to Breaux Bridge, 30 miles, Oct. 7;
•Acadian – Port Barre to St. Martinville, 49 miles, Oct. 7;
•Hot Sauce – St. Martinville to New Iberia, 24 miles, Oct. 8;
•Sugar – St. Martinville to Franklin, 59 miles, Oct. 8;
•Black Bear – New Iberia to Franklin, 35 miles, Oct. 8;
•Oil & Gas – Franklin to Berwick, 27 miles, Oct. 9.
