Stand-up paddle boards, being demonstrated here by Carson, Conrad and Peyton Pellerin of Breaux Bridge, are very popular on False River. All types of paddle craft are welcome in the False River Open.

First False River Open will be Saturday, Sept. 6

The False River Open Paddle Challenge will be this Saturday, Sept. 6, at the public ramp next to Satterfield’s Landing.
Registration opens at 7 a.m.
The events:
•400 Meter Youth Paddle, $20, start 8 a.m.
•3 Mile Paddle, $30, start 9:15 a.
•10 Mile Challenge, $40, start 11 a.m.
The events are open to all types of paddle craft. Paddle classifications will follow USCA classes, with single, tandem, and three to four paddlers per craft as well as SUPs (stand-up paddle boards) and open class to include any unspecified boat.
Paddlers under age 18 must have a parent or guardian sign for them.
The False River Open Paddle Challenge is sponsored by the Kiwanis of Pointe Coupee with the technical assistance of Tour du Teche, Inc.
This is the first year for this race. The sponsors hope to make it an annual event.
