Canoe, kayak instructor course available March 22-23
Tave Lamperez, a United States Canoe Association instructor trainer, will be giving a course for USCA canoe and kayaking instructor at City Park here Saturday and Sunday.
The cost is $100, which includes USCA membership. Tave is volunteering his time as a friend of Tour du Teche.
(Certification in first aid and CPR is also a requirement but not a prerequisite to take the course.)
Students need paddling clothes (no sandals or flip flops), hat, sun block. Extra dry clothes, shoes and towel highly recommended. You will get wet during safety training. Also your own life jacket.
Optional but very welcome will be extra boats and paddles, especially recreational style kayaks or sit-on-tops.
This nationally certified course is designed for those who wish to become certified by the USCA to teach groups desiring education in safe canoeing skills. The course covers basic concepts for recreational canoeing and kayaking, including strokes, safety, and maneuvers needed to maintain boat control in moving water.
Anyone interested is urged to contact Tave as soon as possible at lamperez@netscape.net.
