Lee, Leon boost BB to 30-8 win over Wildcats

With senior running back Ruben Hypolite still mending from an earlier leg injury, Daniel Lee and sophomore quarterback Julian Leon stepped up big time last week to lead Breaux Bridge to a 30-8 District 5-4A victory over Abbeville.
Lee, a senior, rushed for 40 yards and a TD and caught nine passes for 100 yards and two more scores.
Leon, in only his second start, was 12-for-15 through the air for 155 yards and the two TDs without an interception.
And the Tiger defense, which has been The Bridge’s strong point for most of the season, came through big time by limiting the Wildcats to 98 yards total offense and a lone fourth quarter touchdown.
Breaux Bridge drove 60 yards on its first possession and sophomore Logan Bossier got the TD from 3 yards out.
Defensive back Cortlum Melton set up BB’s next score when he picked off a Wildcat pass inside Abbeville territory. Five plays later Leon hit Lee with a 21-yard strike that helped stretch the BB lead to 13-0.
After forcing an Abbeville punt, the Tigers got moving again, reaching the Wildcat 7 before stalling. Bailey Thibodeaux salvaged the drive with a 25-yard field goal that gave the Tigers a 16-0 halftime lead.
Breaux Bridge wasted no time getting on the board again in the second half, taking the kickoff and going 68 yards to stretch its lead to 23-0. A 33-yard Leon-to-Jude Boudreaux pass sparked the drive and Leon found Lee open for the 25-yard TD strike.
Abbeville got its only score early in the final stanza using a 15-play drive that covered 86 yards and used up just over 8 minutes. The TD came on a 2-yard plunge by Matt Johnson.
But Wildcat hopes of a late rally were quickly snuffed when the Tigers answered when Lee broke a 31-yard run for Breaux Bridge’s final score of the night.
With the win Breaux Bridge improved to 4-3 and 1-1 while Abbeville slipped to 3-4, 0-2.
The Tigers celebrates homecoming this week by hosting Westgate in another district contest.
