Balanced offense lifts Cecilia to easy victory

Bulldogs defeat winless Westgate, 49-0

A struggling Westgate team was no match for Cecilia’s offensive juggernaut last week as the Bulldogs rolled to a 49-0 District 5-4A victory over the 0-7 Tigers.
Cecilia roared to a 28-0 halftime lead and added 21 more points in the third period before coasting through the final stanza.
With Raymond Calais rushing for 138 yards on 18 carries the ’Dogs piled up almost 200 yards on the ground while senior quarterback Landon Roberts went 8-for-11 for 175 yards and two touchdowns through the air.
Roberts also added a rushing TD.
Defensively the Bulldogs held Westgate to 129 net yards and free safety Kendrick Zeno returned an interception 76 yards for a TD while linebacker Sonny Angelle took a recovered fumble 17 yards for yet another score as Cecilia upped its season record to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.
It took the Bulldogs only three minutes to light up the scoreboard with Roberts capping a 70-yard, 8-play drive with an 11-yard keeper.
Cecilia struck again on its next possession with a 57-yard bomb from Roberts to Kenya Dartez.
The ’Dogs added two more scores in the second period. Raymond Calais broke a 44-yard gain on the drive and Kyle Guidry plunged in from the one.
That was quickly followed by Zeno’s pick-six and the Bulldogs led 28-0 at intermission.
The second half started badly for the Tigers as their first possession ended with a fumble that Angelle took 17 yards for a TD.
Midway through the third period Roberts connected with Rusty Robin for a 6-yard touchdown.
Angelle recovered another Westgate fumble at the Tiger 10 and two plays later sophomore Jamir Kees scored from the 4.
Freshman Tanner Olivier booted all seven PATs to raise his season total to 33 extra points.
The Bulldogs head back to New Iberia this Friday to challenge the Class 5A Yellow Jackets of New Iberia Sr. High.
