Mr. Guidry proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Chief Master Sergeant and retired on September 30, 1964 – his 40th birthday. Upon his retirement he and his family returned to their hometown in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, thereafter he began his career with the United States Post Office, where he worked for over 20 years, until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. posts in Breaux Bridge.
Sid was a huge sports fan, who along with his son, Joey, enjoyed following the basketball and baseball programs of the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now U.L. of Lafayette). He was a devoted fan of Duke University basketball and loved watching them on TV. An avid outdoorsman, Sid enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially deer hunting, in the Atchafalaya Basin and was a longtime member of the Omaha Hunting Club and a former member of the Pelba and Attakapas hunting clubs. One of Sid’s proudest moments in his life and his “Claim to Fame” was killing the infamous “Bodacious” a 9-point buck, while hunting on the Attakapas Hunting lease.
Sidney’s love for his family was unconditional. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather – a nurturing provider for his family and a great and faithful friend to many. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, Joey G. Guidry and his friend Cindy Smith-Callison of Baytown, Texas; two sisters, Norma Frederick and her husband Lee, and Anna Lee Miller and her husband Pat, all of Breaux Bridge; his sister-in-law, Theresa B. Guidry of Breaux Bridge; two grandchildren, Chad Guidry and Treva Guidry; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sybil “Bea” Hardy Guidry; an infant son, Hardy Guidry; his parents, Claude and Eliza G. Guidry; and his brother, Steven Guidry.
Pallbearers were grandson Chad Guidry, great-grandson Blayde Guidry, and his nephews, Mike Guidry, Neil Guidry, Gill Frederick and Mark Miller.
Honorary pallbearers were his great-granddaughter, Devan Guidry, Brad Hollier and members of the Omaha Hunting Club.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge was in charge of arrangements.
