Lucie Louise Bienvenu

Lafayette – A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, September 17 at a 10:30 a.m. Memorial Mass in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille DOWNTOWN, for Lucie Louise Bienvenu, 58. Lucie died on Sunday, August 14, 2016, at her home in Lafayette. Visitation was observed from 8:30 a.m. until time of service.
Inurnment will be on Sunday, September 18, at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Reverend Monsignor Keith J. DeRouen, Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in Opelousas, was the Celebrant of the Memorial Mass and conducted the funeral services. Lector was Lucie’s sister, Dee Watt. Gift-bearers were her brother, Roland Bienvenu, and her nieces, Jeanne Ballinger and Valerie Broussard, and her Godchild Jade Burbank. Karen Broussard, organist and soloist, sang for the services “Here I Am, Lord,” “To You, O Lord, I Lift Up My Soul,” “I Can Only Imagine,” “Wind Beneath My Wings,” and “On Eagle’s Wings.”
Survivors include two sisters, Dr. Anne Broussard and her husband Ken Broussard of Lafayette and Adele “Dee” Watt and her husband Tony of Naples, Fla.; one brother, Roland G. Bienvenu Jr. of Sugar Land, Texas; three nieces, Stephanie W. Alexander of San Jose, Cal. and Jeanne Broussard Ballinger (and husband Brian) and Valerie Anne Broussard, both of Austin, Texas; two great-nephews, Bradley Garcia and Calvin Ballinger; and two great-nieces, Julie Garcia and Camille Ballinger.
Lucie would want acknowledged some aunts and uncles who were special to her: Gert Maraist and Marcel Maraist from Lafayette and Dr. Millard and Rowena Bienvenu from Natchitoches. Her godchild Jade Privat Burbank was special to her as well. She also left behind numerous friends who loved her dearly and who will remember her for her loyal friendship, generosity, loving nature and huge heart, and unique sense of humor. She was fun to be around and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Roland Gilbert Bienvenu Sr. (1917-2011) and Verne Maraist Bienvenu (1916-2004) and she wanted to be buried with them and her maternal grandparents in their hometown of St. Martinville.
Lucie was born on April 9, 1958, in Falls Church, Va. when her father was serving a tour of duty at the Pentagon. Her younger years were spent in Coronado, Cal. and in Ottawa, Canada before her father retired from the Navy and the family moved to Lafayette. She was a 1976 graduate of Acadiana High School and attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana in General Studies. Lucie owned and operated two successful businesses in the late 70s through the 80s, Lucie’s Snow Cones and Bunch O’Balloons. Her many customers had high praise for her caring touch, creativity, and kindness. Lucie also worked later at Crystal Cottage and the Family Tree. In later years, she cared for her parents so that they could remain in their home as they aged. She was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend. Lucie had cancer twice in her life and was proud to call herself a cancer survivor.
