Identity theft threat for Cecilia students

The St. Martin Parish School District is alerting parents of students at Cecilia schools to take steps to safeguard their credit following a burglary at the Cecilia School-Based Health Center on April 30 in which four desktop computers were stolen.
According to Adrienne Huval, coordinator of St. Martin Parish School-Based Health Centers, the hard drive of one of the computers contained names, addresses, dates of birth, and social security numbers of students utilizing the center’s services.
Huval recommends the affected families contact all three major credit bureaus (below) to place a fraud alert on the student’s name, order a credit report and examine it closely, and continue to monitor account statements, explanation of benefits (EOB) statements and credit reports.
“We are investigating how this breach happened by working with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Department,” Huval said. “Surveillance videos have been viewed and a police report has been filed.
“We are committed to lessening the harm this may cause you by changing passwords on all programs and disabling the logins for all stolen computers.
“To protect against such breaches in the future, we recently changed the locks on our doors, updated passwords for all of our computers, and met with a security company.’
