Roland J. Breaux

Breaux Bridge – A Funeral Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015, in the Breaux Bridge Veteran’s Park for Roland J. Breaux, 81, who passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015.
Father Pete Smith will officiate the Funeral Service.
Roland was a silent patriarch who led by example. A gentle, steadfast, and ultimately carefree man, he adored his two daughters and six granddaughters and was deeply proud of the strong women they have become. He did not harbor ill-feelings toward anyone. To him, any acquaintance was counted as a friend.
Immediately upon graduating high school Roland volunteered into the U.S. Army and spent basic training with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After training he was transferred to Fort Benning, Ga. where he volunteered for paratrooper training. He was permanently assigned to the 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he remained for his four year enlistment. After his discharge from Fort Bragg in 1959, he joined the newly organized Co. D, 20th Special Forces Group assigned to the Breaux Bridge Station where he attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. He remained with that group until 1979. Roland took great pride in having served as member of the 82nd “All-American” Airborne Division and later as a Green Beret. His incomparable courage, irrepressible fighting spirit and combat skills encompass all that the Special Forces Group stands for and is his heritage.
Roland remained an active member of Chapter 81 of the Special Forces Association, an American Legion Member, and served on the Breaux Bridge Planning and Zoning Committee.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Breaux of Breaux Bridge; daughter and son-in-law, Scarlett and Raymond Mouton of Breaux Bridge, daughter and son-in-law, Mignon and Todd Trahan of Lafayette; six grandchildren and spouses, Megan and Christopher Baker, Katie Mouton, Mallory Trahan, Caroline Trahan, Emily Trahan and Anna Trahan; as well as two great-grandchildren, Andrew David and Lily Baker.
He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Breaux; his mother, Electa Breaux; and his sister, Verina Romero.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Martin, Vernon “Sukit” Blanchard, Percy “Blackie” Trahan, Joey Picard, Raymond Mouton, Todd Trahan, Patrick Romero and Christopher Baker.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Roland’s memory to Chapter 30 of the Wounded Warriors Parade Fund.
Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
