Butte La Rose
Bonjour!
Y’all come to Catahoula! The Bayou Southern Nationals Drag Boat Races will take place at the Catahoula park, April 11-12, beginning at 11 a.m.
Sheila Melancon asks that I pass on their information: The Catahoula Fire Department is having their annual fund-raiser that day. Please come and pass a good time. There will be great food, cold drinks and fast boats! Charges are $10 per person, $10 per ice chest, children under 12 free. Canopies are allowed, but no bottles.
If anyone wants to make a donation to the fire department, please contact call Sheila at (337) 247-6363. Someone will pick up. Donations are appreciated and tax deductible. C’est bien!
I don’t mean to talk in riddles, but to the many of you camp owners and residents in the Butte La Rose area who have inquired to me about the money deposits y’all made several years ago when a group of people in our area were trying to get a water system installed for us local home and camp owners, I had the opportunity to speak with someone today who was involved in the helping organizing this project and told him about your dilemmas. He told me to his knowledge everything is in St. Martin Parish Government’s hands. Maybe they don’t have your return contact info anymore. But the man said that is where your money is. So want your refund, maybe with interest, this is my answer. They might be trying to locate you all. So let them know!
Boss Fred asked me to send a “thank you” to Lou Angelle from Arnaudville on behalf of us volunteers at the food for seniors table every month for her trouble and brings us treats of coffee. It is delicious and a wonderful warm-up help. I also say thanks to Margaret Jones for her kindness. And thanks to all of you who have brought treats to us in gratitude for our being here to help you all. It is our pleasure to serve you! And thanks to Wilda and Lauralane for the treats of home made cookies. And thank you to Jane and Verlene for those pretty skirts. And thanks to Earlene for the aloe veras. And thank you Deputy Grover for helping with the program. And thanks to all those warm senior smiles who come to us and make it worth our while!
Remember St. Rita’s annual church fair and fund-raiser will be in late April. And maybe for the 4 p.m. Mass at the park. Terry Guidry will sing for us. He does a great song with “Why Me Lord.” I will post more as time approaches.
I went by visit Dudley “Cheese” and Anna Theriot last week. I walked into her kitchen, she opened her oven door and pulled out a pot full of cabbage rolls she’d baked that morning. Said it takes time to prepare and is all eaten and gone within a few minutes. They have not began planting their garden yet. Soil is too wet at this time. Cheese is afraid there is a chance of a couple of small light frost before the winter is completely over. That happens a little late in the season because our winters are unpredictable. They plant okra, purple hulls, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, bells and cayenne.
Anna went to her doctor for a check-up and he gave her a clean bill of health. Took blood and cholesterol tests – all is good. Said she is good for another 80 years! Doctor told her to keep on doing her thing.
Their youngest daughter moved a mobile in their back yard. Anna does both families washing. Said she can’t stop, gotta keep moving. You go woman! Merci pour les aloe veras.
