African-American classic to be shot in Breaux Bridge in March

Shooting is expected to begin in March here and in Cecilia, Lafayette and Lake Charles for “Along the Dirt Road,” and independent, full-length movie by Motion Ent. Productions of Elk Grove, Calif.

Casting calls have already been held in Lake Charles and Lafayette.

“Along the Dirt Road” is an adaptation of the novel “Sweet Lavendar,” by Terry A. O’Neal, who is listed as executive producer.

The story is about an African-American family torn apart by betrayal, abandonment and infidelity in a small Louisiana town during the 1960s. Husband and father Raymond Johnston comes home with a new-born son from an adulterous relationship. Shortly afterward, he vanishes and leaves his wife, Angela, to raise both their daughter, Rae, and his “love child.”

While Rae is faced with the overwhelming reality of growing up without her father, Angela struggles to raise two children on her own during a difficult time of racial tension in the South.

Actress and singer Camryn Levert, 15, of Alpharetta, Ga., has been cast as lead character Rae Lynne.
