Green files suit against the EPPJ
Phyllis J. Green has filed a civil suit against the Evangeline Parish Police Jury seeking monetary damages for “mental anguish, anxiety, humiliation and embarrassment,” as well as income loss and attorney fees stemming from the jury’s failure to appoint her as Registrar of Voters.
In the petition, filed by Daniel E. Broussard Jr. of Alexandria, counsel for Green, the facts indicate she has worked for the Registrar of Voters office for over 30 years. She first became employed July 15, 1976. The facts also state she is an African American female over 40, and on April 2, incumbent Registrar Ted Soileau resigned from office and Green applied for the job April 9.
Green’s petition indicates she was denied the position, which was given to Lucas Buller, on the basis of race, gender and age discrimination. When the jury did this, the petition states Green was denied benefits and income privileges associated with the registrar’s job. As a result, she is asking for that loss of income along with other damages allowed by law.
The suit requests a trial by jury.
