Tour du Teche VI is Oct. 2-4

Ethane pipeline marching across St. Martin Parish

Sections of 20-inch pipe lay strung out along a neatly manicured right-of-way, awaiting a crew from WHC Energy Services, Lafayette, to construct the 270-mile Aegis pipeline from Texas to the Mississippi River.
The pipeline will carry 425,000 barrels a day of ethane, a natural gas liquid widely used in plasics and pharmaceuticals.

Beat the bite: stay in or cover up

As of Aug. 20, the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals was confirming 20 human cases of West Nile virus. This information, combined with recent West Nile virus positive mosquitoes and sentinel chickens, raises concerns about public awareness and individual efforts to avoid mosquitoes whenever possible.
