New hours for city museums
The City of St. Martinville has announced new hours for its Cultural Heritage Center and Acadian Memorial effective today (Nov. 1).
Both the Center, which houses the African American Museum and Museum of the Acadiana Memorial, and the Acadian Memorial will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, except for major holidays.
However, Elaine Clément, the city’s director of tourism, said the museum staffs will continue to offer self-guided and guided tours to groups with advance reservations on Mondays.
Clément also said she was pleased to announce that the presentations in both facilities will be completely bilingual, in English and French.
“With the help of our intern from Quebec last summer,” Clément said, “we were able to complete a translation of the museums’ scripts so English and French-speaking people will be able to enjoy our museum complex in the language of their choice.”
“Like many institutions across the country,” she added, “we are facing budget cuts. But we are pleased that our museums will remain open to continue sharing the Acadian and African history of this area.”
