Local brewery invited to premier beer event

Bayou Teche Brewing will be one of only 73 small and independent craft breweries chosen to represent the craft brewing industry at SAVOR: An American Craft Beer & Food Experience. Presented by the Brewers Association and in its eighth year, SAVOR is the premier beer and food pairing event in the U.S.
SAVOR returns to the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. this June. As in past years, each selected brewery will pour two of its craft beers, accompanied by a reception-style sampling of sweet and savory small plates designed by the Brewers Association executive chef and coauthor of CraftBeer.com’s Beer & Food Course, Adam Dulye.
“We are looking forward to representing Acadiana and Louisiana at this year’s Savor,” said Bayou Teche Brewing’s President Karlos Knott. “There are well over 3,000 craft breweries in America now, and this is the third time in our five year history that we have been honored with being selected. We all feel at the brewery that this is national recognition of our brewery’s mission to craft beers to pair with Cajun and Creole food – which is the tastiest food in the country.”
“SAVOR celebrates the success of small and independent craft brewers and their flavor-forward creations by showcasing the synergy between craft beer and food,” said Julia Herz, publisher of CraftBeer.com and craft beer program director of the Brewers Association. “This unique experience allows attendees direct access into the world of craft beer by conversing with the luminaries of the beer community while tasting an expansive range of delicious beers.”
During SAVOR, Bayou Teche Brewing will be serving their Loup Garou bourbon barrel aged stout, paired with Steak Tartare with Soubise, Sea Salt, Cocoa Nib & Caper Berries. The chef’s note that this pairing allows the steak to shine through thanks to the dark stout, and the brine of the caper berry cuts through the beer’s darkness to allow for a well-rounded bite.
The brewery will also be pouring their Bayou Peche, a peach IPA paired with “Whipped Brie on Crouton with Coriander Syrup & Candied Kumquat.” This pairing shows the balance of fruit and hops as the brie coats the palate long enough for both to appear. The kumquat is accented by a green peppercorn finish from the hoppy of beer.
In addition to the Savor event, Bayou Teche Brewing and New Orleans’ NOLA Brewing have been selected to host a very limited admission Salon at the Savor event. Limited to only 30 ticket holders, the breweries will present an inside look at Louisiana’s Creole and Cajun cultures. The two breweries will share stories and traditions through regional foods and beers, explaining the difference between the two. Each brewery will present special release beers that are only available in their home regions. Bayou Teche will pour their Syrup in the Sky (a smoked wheat and rye ale refermented in oak barrels with cane syrup and pistachios) and Cop Cop (a French-style ale refermented in oak barrels with local honey and dried elderflowers). NOLA Brewing pours their Piety (American Sour ale aged in french red wine barrels on tart cherries) and Sauvage (a 100% Brett fermented Pale Ale aged in oak barrels, dry hopped twice with Galaxy hops). All four beers are to be paired with charcuterie from the talented chefs at Cochon Restaurant in New Orleans.
