Workshops to help African-Americans trace their roots
The African-American Museum is hosting an African-American genealogy series during Black History month.
To help celebrate the struggles, adaptations and contributions of the people of the Diaspora, the museum will teach the attendees how to identify their ancestors and use the records of the Attakapas District to create their family tree.
The series will include two workshops that will be held at the African-American Museum this Saturday, Feb. 7, and Saturday, Feb. 21, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Anyone interested in learning how to start or complete their family tree is encouraged to attend. All workshops are free and materials will be provided.
No prior genealogy background is needed.
Call Danielle Fontenette, director of the African-American Museum, for further information at (337) 394-2230.
Black History Month, also known as African-American History Month, is observed in February in the United States and Canada, and in October in the United Kingdom.
