KLFY News 10 will broadcast live from downtown St. Martinville Wednesday, April 30, as part of the station’s unique series featuring news, newsmaker interviews and musical entertainment.

The City Council last week approved the closure of portions of Evangeline Boulevard and New Market Street for a street dance featuring Nik-L-Beer. The council also authorized the Main Street Association to sell alcohol as a fund-raising endeavor.

The station’s series has already featured locations around Acadiana.

In other business, the council:

•Passed an ordinance annexing over 32 acres on the south side of Sieber Road, extending the city limits 1,657 feet along the roadway. The annexed portion includes Brian Street.

•Sold by sealed bid surplus property, a lot on Vivier Street 114 feet by 92 feet. The successful bidder was Adelia Narcisse Mercier at $9,000.50.

•Approved, with a unanimous second, the city’s part of a three-way agreement with the state and the Levert family to provide over nine acres of land on La. Hwy. 31 for the construction of a new Evangeline Campus of South Louisiana Community College. According to Mayor Thomas Nelson, the Leverts will donate the land directly to the state, if that site is picked by the Louisiana Community and Technical College System.

The city’s part, Nelson said, is to extend existing utilities from Hwy. 31. He extended the city’s thanks to the Levert family “for donating approximately $400,000 of land” to ensure the Evangeline Campus stays in St. Martinville.

He said the family was not adverse to the city annexing that tract if the site is chosen for the facility.
