ST. MARTIN PARISH SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATING RECENT BURGLARIES
The St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office, which has been investigating several home burglaries over the past two weeks, issued a public alert on Monday, Feb. 16.
"We would like to inform the residents that the majority of these burglaries are occurring during the daytime," said SMSO spokesperson Maj. Ginny Higgins.
"Please take a few minutes to check your entry points to make sure that they are secure and add extra security features if necessary," Higgins said. "We are encouraging homeowners to secure anything that may be visible to someone driving by their home such as ATV’s, lawn mowers, weed eaters, etc. If you know you will be gone for an extended period of time, please ask your neighbors to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity."
SMSO also urges residents to avoid posting activities on Facebook that may indicate that you are either out of town or away from your home.
"Unfortunately, thieves are sometimes mindful of the routines of homeowners and are striking when they know they will not be home."
If you or your neighbors observe suspicious activity, please report it to law enforcement.
